Remnants of old watchtower near Hooghly river, Diamond Harbour, 2013
Diamond Harbour, a mofussil town at West Bengal, has seen immense changes in last years. Photos taken previously of the town by local photographers need to be preserved and archived. We will present some of these old photos at Harbour Jam. We will revisit these places, and present new images along with the old ones at the festival.
Through archiving the old images, we expect to open up a space for discussion open for different disciplines, which will help future researchers.
The process of archiving the photos include scanning of slides, preservation of the slides, printing the images, and framing them, and creating an online archive.
We showcase the works of photographers focusing on the local issues. These photos are displayed here.
We organize workshops and photo walks before and after Harbour Jam festivals about basics of photography, how to create portfolios, how to create photo essays and so on. The participants of the workshops then work on themes chosen by them.
Works of the participants are displayed at the Harbour Jam Festival. There were galleries for them at the festival. Some of the photos displayed during Harbour Jam 2022 can be found here.
The group of participants will be sharing an information pool about opportunities and funding for their works.
The purpose of these workshops is to create awareness about the medium photography and to create space for discussions about photography.
Harbour Jam publishes works of the local artists as photo books. Here are more informations about the photo books.
